A Good Friday allotment rule – apparently.

I have had a text from my friend Tess to say that allotment growers always plant their chitted potatoes on Good Friday. I don’t know if this is true, but it motivated me to plant my ‘Rocket’ potatoes in the raised bed with the polythene cover over it.

My favourite film of all time is ‘Big’ with Tom Hanks. I was reminded of the clip where the two friends in the film chat to each other before making every decision together. Sue and I are very close friends. whilst on the phone today we discussed what to do with our potatoes and which square foot they would go in and how deep etc. etc. until we were happy with our plan. So very exciting. She is coming over tomorrow to sow more seeds and have dinner together whilst planning with the help of our square foot expert – Mel Bartholomew. No matter what the weather. Some of my customers are telling me Sunday is going to be a good day – so get the sun cream out and plan what needs to be done in your garden this weekend.

I’ve planted my tatties in my special bags today, in-between the cloud bursts of rain. The cat showed a lot of interest in what I was doing, so I hope I don’t find them dug up again tomorrow!!
